MOSCOW,RUSSIA

Moscow, the capital of Russia, was founded about 850 years ago, and has a population of about nine million. For travelers of the Trans-Siberian or Silk-routes, Moscow is inevitably either a start or end point. The highlight of Moscow is the Kremlin, whose grounds include several cathedrals and Moscow's most famous museum, the Armoury, containing an opulent collection of treasures. Adjacent to the Kremlin is Red Square, site of Lenin's Masoleum and St Basil's Cathedral.

Other major sights in Moscow include the pedestrian walking zone, the "Arbat," the Pushkin Fine Arts Museum, the Tretyakov Art Gallery, and the 150 metro stations which boast chandeliers, marble faces, and frescoed works of art.
